My Favorite Murd- I mean, Couple! Leah + Michael are my true crime-loving bride + groom who quickly became friends during our first meeting when we realized we both LOVED the same podcasts and true crime stories. They were one of my COVID couples of 2020, with an original wedding date in June that was postponed till September.
I adored working with them, not just because we got along so well, but because they allowed me to be so creative when it came to their florals. When Leah was describing what she wanted for her ceremony installation, she couldn’t quite put a finger on it but I showed her Clare + Bradley’s and she was hooked. I was able to work off of that design and create something unique for them.
Bringing in dried flowers and neutrals, their color pallet fit even better in September, with the leaves just beginning to change. They chose Blue Mountain Vineyard, nestled in the Dahlonega mountains in North Georgia. It was the most breathtaking backdrop for their ceremony and pictures. Captured PERFECTLY by my photographer bestie, Sarah Folsom, I get chills every time I look through this gallery.
Okay, before we jump in here, brides, here is a PSA: if you are obsessed with all of the pretty details on top of a stunning wedding gallery, seriously, Sarah is your girl. Look at these flat lays!
Leah and I both cried when I handed her the bridal bouquet. Like the arch, she described to an extent what she envisioned but trusted me to create something special. To quote her, “I vaguely described what I wanted and she created them perfectly. I mean, I cried when she showed me my bouquet.”
Leah’s something blue – blue suede shoes! Obsessed. And the detailing on her wedding dress was SO unique.
Michael wore a navy suit, while his groomsmen were outfitted in leather suspenders and navy slacks. Their boutonnieres were made with fresh and dried florals.
Leah + Michael decided on a First Look, spending most of the day together even before the ceremony. They read personal vows written for one another, opting for the traditional vows to be read during the ceremony.
Okay, here comes my other favorite florals of the day – her arch. Our mechanics include cement buckets, two trees cut down from behind my parent’s house, and some other secret weapons. It was a WINDY day, and at one point we were setting up the reception space when a bridesmaid casually mentioned that the arch had fallen over. My team and I have NEVER moved so fast on a wedding day. Ever. We ended up securing it with a lot of fishing line. But enough about that – these pictures can speak for themselves.
Doing what I love to do best ^ serve my couples!
Leah’s bridesmaids ROCKED these champagne silk dresses. The neutral tone complemented their bouquets perfectly.
I mean, I can’t handle this view and this stunning wedding party.
The wedding ceremony was short, but incredibly packed with love – oh, except for the best man who pranked Leah into thinking he forgot the rings.
Michael got to walk back up the aisle with two pretty ladies on his arms – his new bride, and his precious daughter who gained the BEST step-mom.
I’m in love with the reception space at Blue Mountain Vineyard. We transformed it into a dreamy, intimate room with tall pampas grass, luscious garland, vintage brown bottles with bundles of dried flowers, and candlelight.
And in perfect COVID fashion:
Leah + Michael shared the most precious first dance, followed by a delicious meal and quite the dance party. They chose a sparkler send off, and rode away in style.
Leah + Michael, I cannot express how happy I am you chose me to play such a special role in your wedding planning journey. From our initial meetings in person, to our Zoom calls with wine during quarantine and making the touch decision to reschedule, to seeing you finally walk down the aisle and marry one another, it was the best journey. AND you picked Sarah to take your pictures, my favorite partner in crime, so thanks for that too. I wish you both and your sweet little family blessings on blessings. Love you both!
“I cannot recommend Oakwood & Lace + Co ENOUGH! Danielle is so organized, helpful, sincerely kind, and hardworking. She helped us make really difficult decisions on our wedding journey. We did end up postponing but she made me feel calm and confident about my decision. Her and her team made my wedding day perfect and I could not have asked for a better planner! Danielle also was my florist, and WOW. I was completely blown away. I vaguely described what I wanted and she created them perfectly. I mean, I cried when she showed me my bouquet. As a bride, that’s the kind of service that you want! This company was on top of it from day one to every last detail. Danielle is the full package. I wouldn’t have chosen anyone else. She made our wedding perfect!” – Leah
